Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R: When you're ready.
The Ninja ZX-10R is very different from its successful predecessor. Only the main goal is the same: To set the fastest lap times!
Road rider or circuit racer, when it comes to hard-core machines, everyone knows that the Ninja ZX-10R is the ultimate supersport bike. But that's only because they haven't seen what Kawasaki engineers have in store for them.
The ZX-10R was designed to be the No.1 performer on the circuit. The chassis was reconfigured to reduce lap times, the engine output is still phenomenal and aerodynamic performance is improved. This is a serious track-oriented bike developed for supersport riders looking for high excitement in a litre-class bike and a dominating track-day tool. Riders seriously considering competition will find the 10R to be an excellent racing platform.
More Power, Better Power.
Riders who have experienced the 10R's awesome engine performance at full throttle will find it hard to believe, but our men in the white coats have found ways to unleash even more power from the 10R's engine. A thorough package of upgrades to reduce mechanical loss and improve combustion efficiency results in more power across the rev range (enough, in fact, to comfortably meet Euro-III emissions regulations while maintaining the awesome output of the '05 model), with smoother, more linear delivery.
Superior Cornering Performance.
Cornering performance has also been improved, as has rear wheel traction. The chassis runs with revised geometry, more centralised mass, a relocated swingarm pivot, revised stiffness balance, re-tuned suspension units and a host of other upgrades that most riders may not even notice until they check their lap times. And as befits its more focussed track orientation, the new 10R comes fitted with a race-quality steering damper as standard.
Improved Aerodynamics.
What would a new engine and chassis be without new bodywork to show it off? Yep, the 10R gets an all-new aerodynamics package that lets it rip through the air like a jet on afterburner. Even from a distance, no one will mistake this two-wheeled rocket ship for anything other than a Kawasaki.
The Ninja ZX-10R - The Ultimate Ninja.
Engine
Kawasaki engineers utilized a "stack" design for the extraordinarily compact, liquid-cooled, 998 cc inline four-cylinder engine. The crank axis, input shaft and output shaft of the "Ninja" ZX-10R engine are positioned in a triangular layout to reduce engine length, while the high-speed generator is placed behind the cylinder bank to reduce engine width. With a bore and stroke of 76 x 55 mm, the ZX-10R engine's one-piece cylinder and crankcase assembly reduces weight and increases rigidity. The double overhead cams are machined from chromoly steel billet for strength, four valves per cylinder improve high-rpm breathing, and the forged, lightweight pistons offer high heat resistance to further enhance the bike's power-to-weight ratio.
Cooling System
In addition to liquid cooling, the ZX-10R engine features a liquid-cooled oil cooler adjacent to the oil filter to reduce oil temperatures. "Slosh" analysis was also used to design the internal structure of the oil pan, thereby reducing windage losses and helping to maintain low oil temperatures. The radiator is provided by Denso and helps reduce weight.
A multi-plate wet clutch with a back torque limiter transfers power to a six-speed, close-ratio transmission ideal for closed-course competition. The back-torque limiter automatically disengages the clutch under hard braking and deceleration to prevent rear wheel hop during corner entry, commonly known as "backing it in" (looks good when done correctly).
Wheels
A new six spoke wheel design is claimed to be almost as light as special purpose race wheels. And the rear tire size has been increased from 190/50 to 190/55 ZR17.
The 2006 model is expected to carry over to the 2007 model year with only color scheme changes. The ZX-10R is expected to be all new for the 2008 model year. No information is currently available.
