Scottoiler Mark 7 Universal Kit
COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW Scottoiler - by Matt Pike
Motorcycle chain maintenance is arguably one of the most talked about and important aspects of motorcycle safety and should not be overlooked. It's a sad fact that a large portion of motorcyclists do not even lube the drive chain on their motorcycle and often those that do lube it do so incorrectly.
In order to achieve safe, trouble free miles the chain and sprockets on any motorcycle should be regularly inspected. Firstly to make sure the items are within tolerance and safe, and secondly proper cleaning and lubrication of the chain is necessary to prolong the life of the chain and sprockets, saving you money and ensuring a safer, smoother ride.
Up until now chain maintenance for me has always been to first use a chain degreaser of which half of it ends up on the rear tyre, to then use an aerosol chain lube, again which tends to go everywhere except where I need it, not only is this an expensive way of chain maintenance, it's also a messy job and a time consuming chore.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if there was a product out there that took away the chore of manual chain cleaning and lubing giving you more time to actually ride the bike ? well I am pleased to announce that there is such a product.
Scottoiler have developed a kit for all makes and models of motorcycles called the Mark 7 Universal Kit more comprehensive details can be found on the Scottoiler web site, but without further ado, it's a pleasure for me to review the Mark 7 Universal Kit here as demonstrated on a 2000 Yamaha R1.

Mark 7 Universal Kit - Installation
While there are many different installation routes possible, I chose to install my Scottoiler under the pillion seat for many reasons, firstly as not to ruin the lines of the bike and also I wanted it out the way for both security reasons and to keep it safe from the outdoor elements.
You will see the breather pipe is under the seat and away from outside exposure yet it still has access to clean air, while the vacuum tubing is neatly routed under the seat around the battery tray and towards the cylinder head under the tank.
The delivery tube which contains the oil is also fed under the seat and I glued the delivery tube conduit neatly on the inside of the rear sub frame as you can see in the pictures, finally the delivery tube is routed through an existing hole in the frame and plugged with a barbed connector which is then joined onto the Slipperblock system and this is where the installation for the Mark 7 Universal Kit ends.
I would just like to mention that that the Slipperblock system does NOT come with the Mark 7 Universal Kit yet is simply an add-on. The Mark 7 Universal Kit uses the more traditional dispenser assembly with injector for direct lubrication on the chain rollers but the oil delivery system can be upgraded should you wish but is not necessary.

Conclusion
Having now fitted both the Mark 7 Universal Kit and the Slipperblock system and having had chance to test Scottoiler's automatic chain lubrication system I can honestly say I am seriously impressed with the end result. As my bike sits on the paddock stands next to me as I write this review I can see the rollers on the chain are wet with oil and I know I don't have to spend any time this weekend degreasing and lubing the chain as the Scottoiler kit has it covered.
My only regret with the Scottoiler Mark 7 Universal Kit is that I didn't fit one sooner.
Editors Note : Obviously neither WWW.ZX-10R.CO.UK nor Scottoiler condone speeding on a public highway, please ride with caution.
The Mark 7 Universal Kit comes in a nice box, inside you will find comprehensive fitting instructions, Scottoiler reservoir, 500ml of Scottoiler oil and an array of fitting parts.
Although the product does come with comprehensive fitting instructions, Scottoiler have easy step-by-step installation guides for many different makes of motorcycle, please click HERE to download your installation manual.
The Slipperblock system again comes in a very similar box to the Mark 7 Universal Kit. Inside you will find comprehensive fitting instructions and an array of fitting parts.
Although the product does come with comprehensive fitting instructions, Scottoiler have also provided instruction on their web site HERE.
Please note: When ordering a Slipperblock system be sure to order the correct size one for your chain i.e. 520 or 525 / 530.
Installing the Slipperblock system was quite straight forward. By using the barbed connector you simply plug into the Mark 7 Universal Kit which then feeds the Slipperblock system with oil.
You can see from the video the Slipperblock system working, it simply glides over the rollers on a bed of oil and is quite simply the best looking most effective chain lubrication system I have ever seen, certainly the best on the market today.
